Data, Privacy & Closing Your Account

Everything on this page is reached from Profile → Data & Privacy or Profile → Danger zone. These controls are available to notaries — the same ones clients have, plus the extra safeguards a practice needs.

Your rights here are statutory: the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 (NDPA) gives you a right of access to your own data and, under section 34, a right to request its erasure.

Request erasure (NDPA s.34)

Profile → Data & Privacy → Request data erasure.

This is the statutory route, and it is not the same as deleting your account. An erasure request is reviewed by the platform, because a notary's records are not all yours to erase.

What cannot be erased, and why

Your notarial register, the certificates you have issued, and the session evidence behind them are retained regardless. They are not NotariseIt's records about you — they are the statutory record of notarial acts you performed, which the Notaries Public Act 2023 requires to be kept and which third parties may need to rely on for years. Erasing them would not protect your privacy; it would destroy other people's legal instruments.

Closing your account

Profile → Danger zone → Delete account, or the same control on the Data & Privacy page.

Your sessions have to finish first

If you have upcoming sessions, the platform will not close your account while they are outstanding. Instead:

• you are removed from search immediately, so no new bookings arrive;
• your diary runs down as booked — clients who have already paid are not stranded;
• the account closes automatically once your final session completes.

The page tells you how many sessions are holding it open.

Your Pro subscription ends immediately

This is the one place where the subscription rules are harsher than usual. Cancelling a subscription normally leaves you on Pro until the end of the period you paid for. Closing your account does not — the subscription is cancelled at once and no refund is issued for the unused portion.

If you have time left on Pro

Cancel the subscription first and let the period run out, then close the account. See Cancelling, downgrading and renewals.

The grace period

Once the request goes through, a 7-day grace period begins before the account closes permanently. During it, the Delete Account page shows your scheduled closure date and a Cancel deletion request button. After it, closure is not reversible.
