Digital Seal Setup

Every notarial certificate you issue includes your digital seal — the platform equivalent of the physical red foil-wafer seal prescribed by the Nigerian Supreme Court. You must set up your seal before you can complete a notarisation.

Your seal is a legal artefact

Your name and SCN as they appear on your seal are permanently embedded in every certificate you issue. Notarial certificates may be presented in court, used in land transactions, and relied upon internationally. Before saving your seal, confirm that your name and SCN are displayed exactly as they appear on your Supreme Court commission. Any error will appear on all subsequent certificates until you update the seal.

A missing seal blocks you from joining any session

If you have not configured a digital seal, the platform will prevent you from entering the video room when you attempt to start a session. You will see the message "Digital seal not configured — your digital seal is required to complete a notarisation session." You must set up your seal (Option A or B below) before any live session can proceed. A session completed without a seal is not legally valid under the Notaries Public Act 2023.

Your Chief Registrar reference

If your seal was issued through the Chief Registrar, your Digital Seal page shows a Chief Registrar Reference — the identifier the Registrar issued with it, in the form NPA/CR/2025/0042.

It is read-only. An administrator enters it at the point of issue, and there is no field for you to edit it. If it is missing or wrong, raise it with support and an administrator will correct it — and do not treat a blank reference as a problem with your seal, since a seal you generated yourself does not have one.

Option A — Platform-generated seal (recommended)

The platform generates a seal image that matches the Supreme Court seal specification: jagged edge, your name in an arc at the top, and your Supreme Court Number (SCN) in an arc at the bottom.

1. Go to Dashboard → My Profile → Digital Seal.
2. The seal is drawn for you as soon as the section opens — there is no Generate button, because there is nothing for you to configure. Your name and SCN come from your registered profile and are shown read-only beside the preview.
3. Check that the name and SCN on the preview are correct.
4. Click Use This Seal.

That single click saves it — there is no separate save step. Clicking it is also your consent to use a system-generated seal on your certificates until an official seal is issued by the court or the Chief Registrar's office, and the page says so above the button.

Your seal is stored securely and a preview is shown on your profile page.

If the name or SCN is wrong, stop

Neither is editable here, by design — an instrument that identifies you should not be filled in by hand. Raise it with support and an administrator will correct your profile, then come back and generate the seal again.

Option B — Upload your own seal

If you have a high-resolution scan of your physical seal, you can upload it instead.

1. Go to Dashboard → My Profile → Digital Seal.
2. Choose your image — JPEG or PNG, maximum 5 MB.
3. Click Upload Seal.
4. The image is scanned for viruses and validated before saving.

Switching seal types

You cannot have both a generated and uploaded seal active at the same time. To switch from one to the other, remove the existing seal first — the page asks Remove seal? and you confirm with Yes, remove it.

While you have no seal, notarisation is blocked: the page says so plainly, and the seal is the commit point of the notarial act. Do not remove one until you are ready to put the replacement in place.

Practice logo

You can also upload a practice logo (separate from your seal) that is displayed on your public profile and in notification emails sent to clients.

1. Go to Dashboard → My Profile → Practice Logo.
2. Upload a JPEG or PNG image.

How your seal appears on certificates

At the end of each notarisation session, the platform generates a certificate PDF that embeds:

• Your digital seal in the designated position
• Your RSA-signed digital signature
• A QR code linking to the public verification page
• The session's SHA-256 document hash
